Pedestrian Accidents
National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) estimates that the number of pedestrian accidents across the country are on the rise.
Several factors can contribute to this including:
- Drivers who are unaware of their surroundings
- Drivers who take a right turn on a red light
- Pedestrian crossings that are not well lit or marked.
- Motorists who lose control of their vehicles
- Driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
Pedestrians have an obligation to protect themselves, but almost always have the right of way if they are cross a street in crosswalk. If a pedestrian is injured on private property, such a grocery story parking lot, the owner of the store may have an obligation to have provide you with better safety.
